Scrub a dub dub!

Christmas this year was full of homemade gifts and this was one of my favorites to give! So easy to make and so luxurious to use! (I'm glad I had enough left over for myself!)

My sister and sisters-in-law all got an eye mask along with their scrub; Mom and Mom-in-law got a terry cloth bath pouf.  Nice little pamper package.

Salt/Sugar Scrub

1 cup sugar (I used regular baking sugar)
1 cup epsom salt
1/2 cup olive oil
20-25 drops lavender essential oil (I used Aura Cacia essential oil I found at a natural market)
1 drop food coloring (optional)

I used EVOO because that's what I had on hand, but maybe a lighter olive oil would eliminate the need for food coloring.

You can choose any scent you want (some are considerably more expensive than lavender) or mix a few together.  I went for simple and 'calming'.

First I mixed the salt and sugar together with the oil.
It's hard to tell because of the yellow bowl but it was quite green.  Not so appealing.
One drop of red food coloring helped quite a bit.
I ended up with about 23 drops of oil but it's up to you.  I didn't want it to smell like olive oil...

Ahhh....much nicer color.
It was a nice consistency at this point but the oil seems like settle after a while.

I filled a short mason jar and mod podged the lid with a Monet print (my mom loves Monet) from an old date book I had on hand.

I finished it off with some kitchen twine and a handwritten label (of course I forgot a picture of that before I packaged it all up.)  And it was a hit!

I only had one Mason jar on hand and every store near me was out of them 3 days before Christmas, so I used these from Ikea that I had bought for something else and never used.  Some fabric on the lid (with Mod Podge for fabric) and a handwritten label on the front (with Mod Podge for paper) make them look much less "Ikea".

So use whatever you have on hand!

Go pamper someone!
Or yourself - You deserve it!!
